I really enjoyed participating in a Creativity and Community online art making gathering last night. I’ve been down with some sort of virus and haven’t had much energy this week but I did manage to get to this and I’m glad I did. It was a good reminder of how much I need to make art just for me. I dipped into all sorts of materials and had a lot of fun with the process. I’m still loving working with little pieces of canvas and a needle & thread. Surprisingly this piece was made on a page torn out of a regular journal—no fancy paper here. I was really impressed with how well it held all the layers. There’s a lot on there! It got me reflecting on our resilience as humans and the capacity to often hold so much more than we realize we can. Thinking back to how this image arrived, the process was not rushed at all. I took my time and I let each layer dry before adding more. Perhaps that space and time allowed for the bottom layers to strengthen? Interesting lessons from an evening of free flow art making. Grateful as always.
