Red is one of those colours that I’ve noticed many of us often have an interesting relationship with. I’ve had clients who only use it when they feel anger or rage, others who use it exclusively to express love, and some who just won’t use it at all because it feels too intense. I get that. I can relate. I was excited when @ae_lawton invited us to look at red through a different lens during her Intuitive Drawing Club session this week. Part of me wanted to ignore the invite and go back to my regular scheduled program, but she read us some powerful words that allowed me to experience red differently for a moment and that’s all it took for the imagination train to leave the station. All I can say is that I had an absolute blast with this. It started with two tiny pieces of red embroidery thread because that’s all I could find. I pushed them around the page with a red pencil crayon I hadn’t touched in forever. The rest unfolded so playfully and I found myself fluttering with curiosity. Red became a long lost friend I was ready to reunite with from a place of childlike awe and wonder. And I did! At one point I wrote the question to red: who are we together? Our spontaneous play date began to order clues. It’s amazing how the stories we tell ourselves can deprive us of experiencing so much—not just the magic of a colour but depth of relationships, presence of possibility, and so much more. 🎈
